Labour unions in Nigeria today embarked on a protest to oppose the
45%!increase in electricity tariff in the country. Members of the unions
and hundreds of electricity consumers trooped into the streets of Abuja
and other state capitals calling on the government to rescind the
increase. They say they are also opposed to arbitrary billing of
consumers. The labour unions appear to have found their voice after
several months of inactivity and infighting that led to emerging of
factional bodies.
