AGN President Fiberesima appointed member of NCAC

Few days after president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima led members of the guild to Abuja where they installed President Goodluck Jonathan as its Grand Patron, President Goodluck Jonathan has appointed her a as member of the board of National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC).

Elated Ibinabo revealed that it is a welcome development for the movie industry as it would help them to achieve the desired results since they are now part of the board.

Tunde Kelani’s Mainframe team wins top prize at CultureShift 3

Barely two days to his birthday, Mainframe team led by Tunde Kelani were announced as winners of CultureShift 3 - hackaton - workshop organised by the British Council and Co-Creative Hub on Sunday, 23 February, 2014.
CultureShift; a programme created to engage creative entrepreneurs and organisation to use technology to provide solutions for challenges started last year on the Ideation stage with 15 companies competing and six companies getting shortlisted to progress to the hackathon stage and the selection of a winner.
Mainframe presented a platform for Yoruba Global Content; movies, trailers, musical videos, teleplays etc. across - mobile, web and internet TV. They built an App called ‘OPOMULERO’ which would run on Android, Ios, blackberry and other operating systems.
With this announcement coming three days to his birthday; veteran director; Tunde Kelani said “I am excited about this and this platform is like a birthday present to me, I am not planning any party this year but I believe that it has been marked by this milestone. I wish to thank family, friends, benefactors, supporters and audience for your love and support.”
Unveiling a new logo as well on his birthday, the veteran added “I shall need you more in the next phase of my life. There are a lot of goodies in 2014 – Dazzling Mirage; a new film set for release soon, Omuti - Palmwine Drinkard (stage re-adaptation), YEEPA Solaarin Nbo (stage) and the ultimate - OPOMULERO -platform for Yoruba Global Content.”

Having spent over 40 years in film production, Kelani, the foremost cinematographer is the executive director of Mainframe Film and Television Productions, an outfit he set up to document Nigeria's rich culture. He joined Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) in 1970 and worked for 10 years in both Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) and Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) in Lagos before studied the Art and Technique of Filmmaking at the London International Film School, London. When he returned he did a lot of works for many organisations including Reuters.

TK’s current project, Dazzling Mirage was written by Dr. Olayinka Abimbola Egbokhare in the Department of Communication and Language Art, the University of Ibadan.

Nigerian artiste Praiz donates N10m to save baby with hole in the heart

Nigerian popular rhythm and blues singer Praiz Adejo has a milk of kindness flowing from his heart by presenting proceeds from the sales of his single ‘Oshe’ as a callertune to baby Somaya Olayinka Dahli who has a whole in the heart.

A statement made available to Daily Newswatch has it that the singer was able to raise N10m this February and the total money has been presented to Somaya's parents in order to cover the medical bills for her post-surgery treatments.

The statement further revealed that after a successful heart operation was carried out in late 2013 to close the hole in Somaya's heart, doctors made it known that she would need post-surgery treatments, monitoring and care to keep her alive. And this is where the angel in Praiz was aroused. 

“It was sad seeing Somaya go through all that pain, she’s a little girl who shouldn’t suffer like that,” Praiz says
“The X3M Music act is an example of selfless giving and we hope others like him who are in the position to help keep souls alive will be encouraged to do more for others who find themselves in life threatening situations,” the statement said.

Gidi Culture Festival announces line up of artistes

Gidi Culture Festival last weekend announced that it has added Phyno, Oritse Femi and Naeto C to its already star-studded line up of artistes.
According to the event’s organisers, the much anticipated beach festival which is set to take place at Elegushi private beach on Sunday, March 2, 2014 will also see artistes such as Orezi, Chidinma, Dammy Krane and Emma Nyra take the stage.
“As momentum for the event rises, we are pulling out all the stops to bring an all star line up of artistes and Djs’ said Chin Okeke, Eclipse Live Founder. To deliver the ultimate festival experience, a superior line up of DJs including Caise, Cuppy, Kaywise and Kentalky have been enlisted to take the decks. With mixes and singles that have been causing a wave in the club circuit, there is no doubt that these DJs will be bringing an exciting mix to the festival,” they said.
The organisers of the festival have also partnered with the Lagos Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development to bring a range of beach activities to keep festival goers entertained all through the day.
“The Made in Nigeria food and textile court will also be on hand to feed thousands of festival goers, with its varied list of ‘home‘ menu as well as showcase locally made products. The Made in Nigeria court serves to promote and support local businesses. Local vendors will have the opportunity to rent out stalls through Mente Moda, who we have partnered with to ensure that a wide range of products are available.
“With the line up already causing a stir amongst music lovers, the organisers have hinted that a big announcement is still underway closer to the day.”
