At the celebration of the Vlisco Women’s Month 2014,
the premium Irish cream drink, Baileys, gave guests an unforgettable treat.
With
a theme: Night of dreams, the event that was held last Sunday, March 30, 2014
at The Marquee, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, was a multi prong
celebration for the women. Mrs. Adesuwa Onyenokwe of Today's Woman, Dr. Olamide Orekunrin and the founder of the Nigerian
Youth Climate Coalition, Esther Agbarakwe, were honoured for their outstanding
achievements and inspiring others to realise their dreams. Also, through Vlisco Fashion Fund which
offers talented fashion designers the opportunity to turn their designer dreams
into reality, three winners namely: Sophie Alozie, Chioma Igbokwe and Morokunbi
Idowu emerged and were rewarded.
Cocktail
started at 6.30 pm while the main even kicked off around 7.30 pm. Being the women’s
night out, top female artistes – J’odie and Waje thrilled the audience with
their songs. Kuchi Kuchi, J’odie’s hit single ignited the hall which women that
wore Vlisco fabrics used to catwalk on the stage.
The
product of Diageo Brands Nigeria, Baileys, which is a brand that celebrates
hard working and inspirational women connected with its customers who were
treated with stylish makeup by renowned artists. Guests were served chilled
Baileys creamy drink.
Speaking
at the event, the immediate past Vlisco Ambassador, Mrs. Eugenia Abu advised
women not to compare themselves with men. “It has been awesome being the first
Vlisco woman of the year. I was not better than the other nominees for this
position but I was made the Vlisco ambassador. I hereby urge women to continue
to achieve their dreams,” she said.
The
52-year-old ace broadcaster and writer also thanked Vlisco company for giving
her the opportunity to be the first Vlisco woman of the year. “Vlisco has
increased my fashion to show that a woman can be brilliant and fashionable. We
need to learn to hold our culture dear to improve Adire and collaborate with
Vlisco. Everyday, Vlisco improves despite the fact that they have come of age
and have been in existence since 1986. Nigerians have a lot of opportunities to
be entrepreneurial.”
Guests
had a colourful evening, watching beautiful styles made with Vlisco fabrics on
runway during fashion parade.
Compered
by TV personality, Mariam Anazodo, personalities from fashion, entertainment,
media and corporate worlds that graced the occasion among others included Data
Okorodudu, Mon Ami, Elizabeth Nze, Joke Silva, the Face of this year’s
International Women’s Day Campaign, Stephanie Linus and Miss Nigeria 2013/2014, Ezinne Akudo.
