Gulder unveils world largest poster, begins biggest Nigeria’s consumer promo *Journalist wins car

On Monday, August 24, 2015, Nigerian Breweries Plc, makers of a premium beer brand, Gulder, unveiled the world’s largest poster to kick-start the beer’s biggest consumer promotion in Nigeria.
The first of its kind poster measuring 5, 367 square metres unveiled at the Okpara Square, Enugu State broke the record for the existing largest poster measuring 4.793.65 square metres, which was displayed India on June 27, 2015

Shortly before the poster was unveiled, a Chattered Surveyor, Dr. Nath Agu, who measured the poster with his team, attested the size of the poster while a lawyer, Barrister Onyekwuluje Ogochukwu, legally confirmed the measurement.
The Gulder poster served to kick-start the 2015 edition of the Gulder National Consumer Promotion.

Winner of the Ultimate Chase, Chuka Nnabuife in a joyous mood on winning the grand prize
Unveiling the poster, The Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon.  Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, applauded Nigerian Breweries Plc for choosing Enugu State to unveil the poster and kick-start the promo.
The governor, who was represented by the Enugu State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Barrister Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, hinted that Rockefeller Foundation added Enugu State as one of the 100th cities resilient in the world.
“Indeed, this is a very momentous feat and I applaud Nigerian Breweries Plc, makers of Gulder for choosing Enugu as the take off point for this milestone event. Enugu has also been one of the most lucrative tourist destinations for businesses. By implication, Enugu will also be in the Guinness book of world records for hosting this event. In Enugu, there is a continuous drive from government to provide adequate security for forward-thinking companies like Nigerian Breweries.”
He urged Nigerian Breweries Plc and other companies to become one of the veritable ambassadors to encourage investors to come to Enugu.
Since its unique launch in 1970 as Nigeria’s first lager brand packaged in a brown bottle, Gulder has blazed the innovative trail, achieving milestones in the process.
The brand organized Nigeria’s first reality TV show, the Gulder Ultimate Search, while Gulder’s current packaging, is regarded as Nigeria’s most innovative bottle.


In his welcome address, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Nicolaas Vervelde, was elated that Enugu State where their biggest brewery is located also hosted the event and recalled that since the commission of the brewery in Aba in 1957, the South East has been a solid base to their operations and a veritable home to their brands.
He also pointed out that in 2004; Gulder masterminded the first wholly local reality show produced in Nigeria, the Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS), which has run for 11 consecutive seasons. “In 2008, Enugu played host to the GUS which has also created a platform to showcase Nigeria’s hidden tourist location in addition to bringing out the best in our youths through an adventurous journey that tests their mental mettle, physical strength and social adaptability. Today, we are pleased to expand the frontiers with the biggest consumer promotion in the history of Gulder with over 4 million prizes to be won.”
He stressed that with the unveiling of the Gulder the Ultimate promotion poster, Gulder has broken the record for the world’s largest poster with an area of 5.3 square metres. “The Gulder Ultimate poster beats the current record of 4.7 square metres achieved in Kochi, India on June 27, 2015. That feat is an attestation to the ultimate beer and the ultimate man who stands up to be counted with his beer. As Nigeria’s pioneer and leading brewing company, today’s announcement and unveiling is, essentially, another showcase of Nigerian Breweries continuing commitment to winning with Nigeria. This commitment covers all aspect of our socio-economic impact,” Vervelde added.
Speaking on the connection between the Gulder brand and Enugu, Mr. Hubert Eze, the Sales Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc. said: “The truth is that the Gulder brand has a lot in common with Enugu and Nigerian Breweries Plc.is at home in Enugu. So, when we want to break history, we break it at home and ensure that every corner of the earth salutes this feat.”
Barr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde, the CEO of Nigerian Breweries Plc, his wife, Mrs. Clementina Vervelde and Mr. Kufre Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Adviser, also of Nigerian Breweries Plc., all signed the poster, followed by numerous consumers present.   
The highlight of the event was the kick-off of the National Consumer Promotion, with 123 journalists invited from all over Nigeria as participants. In the end, SIr. Chuka Nnabuife who works with National Light newspaper in Anambra, emerged the winner of first Hyundai Elantra car. Other journalists went home with consolatory prizes.

Speaking on his feat, Nnabuife said: “I feel rewarded after following a brand for 27 years. I have been following Gulder brand’s activities and have never missed any of its activities. I thank the management of Nigerian Breweries Plc for rewarding me with this beautiful gift and I implore them to keep on being the best brand for Nigerians. I feel like a star.”
Believing that he was destined to win the car, Nnabuife said when he got an invitation to attend the event; he asked his subordinates to attend the event but later changed his mind to grace the event. “As God would have it, I won the star prize, a car,” he added.
Also speaking, one of the journalists, Mr. Tony Awunor from The Union, who won an electric kettle eulogised the Nigerian Breweries Plc for using that exercise to encourage journalists in Nigeria who work tireless to gather and disseminate information in Nigeria. “I am grateful to Nigerian Breweries Plc, makers of Gulder the Ultimate for giving me the opportunity to participate in this first of its kind exercise in Nigeria, which is to me, a way the company used to encourage us. I hereby urge other companies to emulate the Nigeria Breweries PLC. by encouraging journalists in Nigeria in any way they can.”
