Sons and daughters of Akinale at home
and in diaspora stormed the town in Ewekoro local government of Ogun state, penultimate
weekend, to celebrate their culture and heritage and honour their benefactors.
Tagged: “Akinale Day 2013,” it featured
several displays of culture and heritage depicted in arts, music, dance and
folklore of Yoruba and non Yoruba residents of the town as well as exhibition
of agricultural products of the farming community, signalling the potentiality
of the area as a future “food basket” of the locale in Ogun state.
Highlight of the ceremony was the
award of excellence given to the governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle
Amosun in recognition of his “remarkable governance” which has touched on the
lives of the community in Ewekoro local government. Similar award was given to
the Rotary Club of Abeokuta, which in the last five years has adopted the
community as its base for unquantifiable humanitarian services.
The chairman of Ewekoro local
government, Chief Dele Soluade, who was accompanied by the majority leader in
the council, Prince Kehinde Adepegba as well as other councillors, commended
Oba Olufemi Ogunleye, the Towulade of Akinale and the community for the various
socio-economic development that abound in their town.
While praising the Monarch who is the
chairman of the League of Obas and Baales in Ewekoro local government for
ensuring that peace and tranquillity prevail in the sub-region, Chief Soluade
enjoined all traditional rulers in the local government to abhor any action
that might lead to disruption of peace and order in their domain. He pleaded
for patience and understanding with the current administration in the state,
assuring that greater attention would soon be given to other aspects of
socio-economic development in their area.
Earlier, Oba Ogunleye, in a welcome
address, had described Ewekoro local government among the others in Ogun state
as the most peaceful because of a good working relationship between the
traditional rulers and the local government administration, adding that Governor
Ibikunle Amosun had been listed in the community’s hall of fame for extending
to the area, the dividend of democracy, exemplified in the establishment of a
model secondary school, revival of the abandoned community farm, elevation of
some of the traditional rulers in the area and general improvement of social
welfare of the rural people.
