Never! Never! Give up! You
remember these words? They seem to be familiar right. Yes! They are. Whitson
Churchill, before his brave few British soldiers made this short speech. It
turned out that this short speech became the rallying point for the Britain we
know today. Let us imagine what would have happened if the British had lost
against the Napoleon French or the tireless Germans. Perhaps we might not have
had Great Britain today. Someone had to “Never give up”. Someone had to
be the rallying point for others. To achieve any feet, you must have an
unrepentant character of doggedness. You must be determined. As students of
life, there will be times when challenges become arduous and you think, maybe
it’s time you call it quit. Hey! Hey! Hold on! Victory is just by the corner.
Many great achievements or feats
today have been because someone there decided to stand and continue. Someone
chose to defy the odds. Before Mount Everest was subdued, it had been presumed
that Mount Everest was almost impossible to surmount. Of course, many had
tried, some wind up dead, others returned after reaching certain heights. It
seemed like this was impossible. But someone had to say “I’m taking this
shot. Whatever the case, however the challenges, I’d be strong as rock.
I won’t give up a bit”. I’m sure that person had heard of the many stories.
At every step, the stories he had heard would have been reverberating over his
head. Probably he would have thought, alright, maybe I should stop here.
Nevertheless, he never gave up. He never retired. He just shot on and finally
on top amidst the winds, the storms, and the low oxygen content of the air. He
reached the top of Mount Everest. you know him? Arnold Saint.
Develop in yourself the “I’ll
never give up” attitude. No matter what happens, though the heat may
rage, believe that certainly there will be calm. The world goes round and
somehow, darkness knows how to give way to light. Who told you that that
problem never going to end? It is going to end. Do not give up because
everybody is giving in. it may seem as if you are scared of standing alone, or
you are incapable of breaking that bone. Continue to crack that bone.
Somehow, your effort will create a crack and then a break.
A man who once climbed a mountain
told this story. At the depth of the mountain, he had found a warning sign
depicting danger for any desiree climber. Another signboard directed the
climber telling them how long the distance from ground to the top was. Now this
climber desirous to reach the peak began against the warning. As the climber
climbed, the warnings increased. Every sign posts he met gave him little hope
of ever getting to the top as the distance recorded on them never seemed to
reduce. I had better return, the climber thought to himself. As he turned to go
back, he saw another climber returning from the peak jugging. Baffled, he
asked, how far is the peak from here? The man replied, it may be just nearer
than you think. Being encouraged, he set on, and just as the passer-by had
said, he was at the peak in 5 minutes. It was nearer than he thought.
Sometimes we meet challenges that
make our brains feel like, hach! This is not going to work. I had better try
something else. Of course, the success is just right there nearer than you
think. Do not give up too soon when you feel overwhelmed by present
circumstance. We can only see the light at the end of the tunnel only after
getting through the dark tunnel. It is surprising how people let go too easily
on things just because of the little encumbrances they face. They let go too
easily that they only come to discover later that if they had dared just a
little, maybe somehow they would have gotten it right.
That mountain is only a mountain
because you cannot mount it. When someone surmounts it, it is no more a
mountain. It becomes like any other thing. It then decays like any other idea,
any other valley. That thing is impossible because you allow the “im” before
the “possible.” You saw “I? Em? Possible? We let go too soon. Never!
Never! Give up! Else you’d screw up wondering why you never always got it
right. You would wonder why others are making it and you are not. Something
lets me know they just decided to go extra where you stopped, where you got
stock of ideas and you could not continue. They decided to do a fast one and
got smarter just there. They decided not to let go.
Just push on friend. Just go on a
bit. It is just around the corner, closer than you think. It is just there!
And I am sure you will see this
that it’s only those who dare that win. See only the good side. Make the right
move and figure out the kind of change you can make.
