The premiere of an advocacy movie, an Ebele Okaro-Onyiukes flick,
 - Musical Whispers, which took place at the Silverbird Cinemas, Lagos, last week Friday, May 30, 2014, attracted top Nigerian actors and actresses, medical practitioners and the media.
Cast of Musical Whispers include: Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Ebele Okaro Onyiuke, Kalu Ikeagwu, Ekpenyong Bassey, Oritz Wiliki, Belinda Effa, Chuma Okaro, Maureen Okoro, Comfort Bruno, Kalu Uche, Victor Okenwa and so on.
Synopsis: A young couple, David Kalu (Kalu Ikeagwu) and his wife, Agtha (Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha) has a challenge in their home because their son David Junior also known as DJ (Victor Okenwa) has a medical disorder known as autism.
Since an autistic child needs care and attention due to the fact he or she cannot communicate effectively or interact normally like other children, the working class lady, Agatha, works tirelessly by spending quality time with DJ, while her husband, David, feels disgusted about the situation and does not care to show love to DJ. He chooses to walk out of his home, abandoning his wife and son and moves to stay with his mistress who calls him a nickname, “Honey Suckle”. Will their love last?
Viewers are taken to another scene where Agatha loses her job, but she gets another one through her close friend, Jasmine (Ebele Okaro-Onyiuke) who also tries to match-make Agatha with her husband’s friend, Chris, also known as a chronic bachelor.
But the arrival of a guitarist, Terry (Kalu Uche) in that neighbourhood brightens DJ’s life. Terry teaches David Junior music and later becomes part of the family till he gets a deal after a superfluous musical performance one evening. He then leaves Agatha and David Junior and joins his manager, Oritz Wiliki, but loves leaving frivolous life by frolicking with ladies in the hotel he is kept, paying less attention to his duty. He loses the contract and returns to Agatha. Through him, David Junior learns how to play piano and sing at the same time.
Meanwhile, after experiencing hell from his mistress, David switches over to his mistress’ friend who happens to be Agatha’s secretary in the office. She becomes pregnant for him. Like the prodigal son in the Bible, he returns home and begs Agatha to accept him back. Did she do that? Watch the movie and find out whether she accepted him back or not.
David Junior can now sing and perform at events and a foundation is set up through him to encourage other autistic children.
Comments: Whoever watches Musical Whispers will give kudos to the cast and crew of the epic movie. Full of intrigues, it is inspirational and can serve as a lesson to couples on how to handle challenges that they may encounter in their marriages. Movies like Musical Whispers which centres on an issue like autism is rare in the Nollywood world, so I hereby commend Nollywood veteran, Ebele Okaro-Onyiuke, for producing this interesting movie.
According to the producer, Ebele Okaro-Onyiuke, Musical Whispers is a movie centered on creating awareness on the medical disorder known as Autism, advocating strong family support for those affected, helping them bring out their true potentials.
Autism is a disorder of neural development characterised by impaired social interaction, impaired verbal and non-verbal communication and restricted, repetitive or stereotyped behaviour, Okaro-Onyiuke said.
“The message in Musical Whispers is that no one should be considered useless regardless of his or her medical challenges as noted in the case of David Junior, who later became an organist to the joy of his mother.”
Speaking further, the producer said that Musical Whispers is proudly Nigerian with all the scenes shot in Lagos. The seamless transition in the film directed by former President, Directors Guild of Nigeria, Bond Emeruwa, is an attestation to an adequate deployment of human and material resources and the improved production capacity of film producers in Nigeria.
The movie premiere was sponsored by Flat Feet Productions in partnership with Neimeth, Promasidor and others.
