The Commonwealth Class project



The Commonwealth Class project is a global legacy programme for school pupils and teachers designed by the British Council in partnership with the BBC, Commonwealth Secretariat and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games to engage schools, teachers and pupils globally through the power of sport thus increasing opportunities for young people to improve their knowledge and skills and for teachers to enhance education by sharing in learning resources with a network of international network of inspiring colleagues.
8 schools across Lagos State, who have been participating in the monthly Commonwealth Class Team activities were selected to participate in the milestone celebration marking ’30 Days to Go’ to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games (23 July – 3 August, 2014). Selected schools have coordinated activities ranging from debates, quiz competitions, track and field events, football etc which involved students and teachers to promote the Commonwealth Games. These activities have been supported by grants received through the British Council.

Oregun Junior High School
Girls Senior High School, Agege
Igando Junior Grammar School
Government Senior College, Surulere
Federal Science Technical College, Yaba

The Commonwealth Class project has helped to support young people’s education about the world around them and facilitate dialogue between teachers and young people across the globe; so that together they will come to have a greater knowledge and understanding of the Commonwealth and its values and shape the Commonwealth of the future.
