Okorocha extols Owerre people for sustaining the Oru-Owerre festival

The Imo state government has called on the people of the state to sustain and preserve their cultural heritage. Governor Rochas Okorocha stated this during the Oru-Owerre cultural festival at Ugwu Ekwema, Egbu road, Owerri.
He noted that the state had a rich culture that could be harnessed and showcased to the outside world. Owelle Okorocha said that though this was his first time of coming to the event, commended the people of Owerre for consolidating on the gains of the festival.
The governor used the occasion to call on Imo people not to allow a bad leader to take over the affairs of the state come 2015. He maintained that his coming into governance was to ensure the transformation of the state. Okorocha, who mentioned some of his achievements in the last three years, reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the state was better.
Speaking, the state Deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere commended the
people of Owerre for the peaceful way they organized the cultural festival.
Prince Madumere described Oru-Owerri festival as a monumental activity which is revered by all well meaning sons and daughters of Owerri.
In his speech, the traditional ruler of Owerre, Eze Emenyonu Emmanuel
Njemanze said the event was aimed at promoting peace and harmony as
well as showcase their rich culture. Eze Njemanze commended the governor for his transformation programmes which according to him had given Owerri the state capital a new look.
In his address, the President General of Owerri Community Assembly, Chief Felix Chidi Ngoka, said Oru-Owerre was a period for the celebration off peace and tranquility. Chief Ngoka appealed to the wealthy to direct their resources towards human development by way of providing scholarship and vocational training to the youths.
He regretted that most of them now engage in anti-social behaviours for lack of job opportunities and stressed the need to re-orient them on societal norms. Highlights of the festival were presentation of yam to the governor, Owelle Okorocha and Azuwike Age Grade received the Governor as their member.
