Benue’s Akata Fishing Festival holds in June

A festival which ranks among the world’s best, the 2013 Akata Fishing and Cultural Festival, will kick off on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.
Scheduled to hold in Katsina-Ala, Benue State, Daily Newswatch gathered that the festival would be a wonderful way for those who have never fished before or have been doing it for years to spend some time together as a family in Benue State
According to a statement issued by Principal Consultant, Green Business Dimensions, Mrs. Rosemary Duamlong, in Lagos recently, the festival would help individuals and organizations to expand the scope of their businesses and also tap into the opportunities in Benue State.
She also said that: “This is an ideal opportunity for families, investors, decision makers and tourists to see what Benue State offers.”
Stressing that the fishing competition is aimed at promoting the culture, tourism and agricultural development of the state, Duamlong said the festival would be complemented by other events like wrestling, power bike racing, traditional dances, beauty pageant, boat racing and arrow shooting.”
“The June event will draw attention to the importance of fishing in the lives of many Benue families. Through the events, former and new anglers can try fishing at no cost. We know that once people try it, particularly kids, they will see that fishing is a great recreational activity and they will want to do it more.”
“The festival, which kicks off on Tuesday morning with business conference and continues on Wednesday, June 5, with Made in Benue Expo, Cultural and Entertainment Night, will end on Thursday, June 6, with a Gala/ Awards Night.
The final day will feature a hands-on fish focus, showcasing fishing tackle and equipment displays, local produce temptations, fly tying demonstrations plus a range of guest speakers. There will be prizes and giveaways during the festival and the chance to learn how to cook your catch with professional cooking demonstrations,” Duamlong said.
