MUSON celebrates 30 years anniversary on October 25


The Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) which was founded on October 25, 1983 and coincided with its annual MUSON Festival will celebrate its 30 years of establishment on October 25, 2013.
Daily Newswatch gathered that this year’s festival tagged: Celebration of the Perfection in the Arts will hold from October 17 to 27, 2013 at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
Highlights of this year’s festival include ‘My kind of Music’, which holds on October 17. It features Dr. (Mrs.) Femi Akinkugbe, Mr. Stefano de Leo, Ms. Evelyn Oputu and Amb. Patrick Dele Cole, ‘the MUSON Jazz Festival’ which holds on October 19 and features Afrobeat King Femi Kuti and Afrojazz cum singer Yinka Davies. ‘The Classical Concert’ comes up on October 20 and features Manami Sano, Ulf Klausenitzer and Thomas Kanitz; ‘The Youth Concert’. 12 finalists in the Musiquest competition will perform on October 24,; ‘MUSON Day’ is on October 25 with Latin American Music, Tango and more; Echoes from the Lagoon, a stage play written by Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, will be performed on October 26. ‘The Gala Concert’ is on October 27 with performances from Victoria Oruwari, the MUSON symphony orchestra and the MUSON choir.
It would be recalled that Mr. Akintola Williams, Chief Ayo Rosiji, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi, Mr. Louis Mbanefo and Mrs. Francesca Emanuel alongside Sir Mervyn Brown, then British High Commissioner in Nigeria and Lady Brown formed the Musical Society of Nigeria in 1983, which aims to promote the understanding and enjoyment of classical music, promote the education of children in the performance and theory of music, promote interaction between Nigerian and non-Nigerian musicians, promote the performance of serious music with emphasis on classical music, provide facilities for the realization of the above mentioned objectives and raise funds from persons and organisations for the realisation of these objectives, among others.
