Idowu Sonaya ties the knot to heartthrob Titilayo Olufunke

Mr. and Mrs. Sonaya

From Raphael Adeyanju, Ado Eliti

In Africa, the Biblical injunction that a man will leave his parents to cleave with his wife is not taken literal, rather, marriage is seen as a union of the families of the groom and that of his bride because while a man must direct most of his affection and attention to his loving bride, he cannot abandon his family, but he will bring her to become a full member of the husband's family.
On Saturday, November 24, 2013, Ado-Ekiti capital was agog as the families of Chief and Mrs. Akinwunmi Ogunjobi and late Pa Saliu Sonaya and Mrs. Osefat Sonaya lived up to the African tradition to came together through the union of their children, Titilayo Olufunke and Idowu Adekunle Sonaya, in holy matrimony with fanfare.
The new bride Titilayo like Ruth, the Moabite who gladly accepted to adopt the family of her in laws promising, "where you go, I will go, where you lodge, I will lodge, your people shall be my  people and your God , my God."
The holy matrimony was held at Saint Paul's Anglican Church, Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti where the couple was enjoined to be committed the avowed love they publicly professed for one another.
The Clergy of the church, Ven. Professor O.O Amu, in  a  brief exhortation to couple , quoted copiously from the Bible; (Genesis 1:28 & Ephesians 5:22) "For this shall a man leave his father and mother, shall be joined unto his wife and they two shall be one flesh."
The clergy who gave the couple five marital tips advised that: "They talk together, study together, eat together, pray together and sleep together."
He also urged them to see wisdom as a principal factor that will enable them to understand the beauty of life.
Professor O.O Amu maintained that, once people realised that life was short, they would use the little time they had wisely and for internal good.  He challenged the guests in attendance to ask themselves what they wanted to see happen in their lives before they breathed their last and the pragmatic steps they could take to achieve the purpose.
Earlier in the day, a traditional engagement and marriage was held at No 7, Araromi Street, Ajilosun area, Ado-Ekiti
The high point of the ceremony was the superlative the reception and entertainment of guests held at Saint Paul's African Primary school plain field, where a popular band musician gave it all to the guests.
Speaking at the event, the chairman of the occasion, Mr. Sola Faleye admonished the couple to love one and other both in finance and to make use of all the advice offered them in the church by the clerics. He said they should learn how to tolerate each other and pray together in one spirit.
In a chat with Newswatch, the couple expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty for making the day a reality, adding that "Our meeting was ordained by God because we didn't believe that it can lead to marriage in the first instance, but as God would have it, he led us this far in our relationship and that is why we are giving thanks to Him", Sonaya said.
Titilayo Olufunke is staff of Niger Insurance Plc, Lagos Branch while her husband Idowu Adekunle Sonaya is the treasurer of the Society of Nigerian Artists, Lagos State chapter.
