It was celebration galore in Lagos last week Saturday, when Diageo Brands Nigeria created an  opportunity for consumers to step up to the very important personality (VIP) lifestyle associated with Johnnie Walker.
The one-day event began with a press conference at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, where Formula One legend, Mika Hakkinem, who is also Johnnie Walker Responsible Drinking Ambassador, interacted with the gentlemen of the press and advised them to drink responsibly.
He said that “Safety standard has gone through changes to ensure the security of drivers, but it is still dangerous.  But that does not mean one should give up his passion,” Hakkinem said.
In his speech, Guinness Managing Director, Mr. Seni Adetu said: “What we are doing today is unveiling the Johnnie Walker Step Up to the VIP Lifestyle. Johnnie Walker is about inspiring personal progress.”
He added that his company invited the Formula One legend to connect with consumers to inspire Nigerian youths to greatness.
Also speaking, the Marketing and Innovation Director, Guinness Nigeria, Mr. Austin Ufomba, also said that Diageo Brands Nigeria would continue to drive the value of responsible drinking.
Popular rapper, Wale Folarin, said he was excited about what Jonnie Walker was doing –which is sensitising people to drink responsibly. “I don’t need to advise the youth because I live by example,” Wale said.

Media practitioners were thrilled with a few minutes’ video - The Man Who Walked Around The World, which summarised the brief history of the Scotch Whisky owned by Diageo Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland. Johnnie Walker Bottles has been in existence since 1911.
Also, a short video of a vehicle made with glass cups which mirrored the consequence of drunk driving was showed to the audience.
Shortly after the press parley, everyone moved to The Palms Mall, Lekki, Lagos, where Johnnie Walker feted its consumers, media practitioners and celebrities with an opportunity to ride with Hakkinem in the F1 Johnnie Walker Caparo Supercar.
Top Nigerian artistes such as African Rapper Number one; MI, Banky W, former BBA winner Uti Nwachukwu and Nollywood actor, Chidi Mokeme graced the event. The evening was rounded off with a party in which Wale led a team of artistes such as Banky W, Seyi Shey, Davido, D,Banj and so on, who thrilled audience with electrifying performances.
