Hon Uko Nkole
Dissatisfied with the abandonment of the Arochukwu/Ohafia federal road, the member representing the area at the House of Representatives, Uko Nkole, has called for the probe of road projects awarded by the federal government in order to ascertain their level of completion.
The 34-kilometre road  is in a  deplorable condition, with gully erosion that has obliterated some portions, while a journey from Ohafia to Arochukwu that ought to take only 30 minutes is now made in about two hours.
Nkole, while speaking to newsmen in Arochukwu after a tour of some roads in his constituency, said there was need for the  federal government to extend its anti-corruption fight to contracts on Arochukwu/Ohafia road.
A community leader, Mazi Jideofor Kanu, who spoke on behalf of Akanu/Ania group of villages, said the transportation of farm produce in commercial quantity from Ohafia, Arochukwu, Ihechiowa and Ututu to communities in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States has been truncated and wondered when the trauma on the road would end.
However, the president-general Nzuko Arochukwu, Mazi Nnamdi Udoh, said there is no time for apportioning blame on what has delayed the rehabilitation of the Arochukwu/Ohafia road because it will not help the local people who pass through the agony while traveling on the road.
Udoh called on the Federal Government to urgently deploy a competent construction firm to take over the
project and complete it.
