The Special Taskforce on Jos crisis has announced that it has arrested the suspects that set ablaze two campaign buses of President Goodluck Jonathan.
PREMIUM TIMES had reported how the campaign vehicles, branded with Mr. Jonathan’s campaign pictures, were set ablaze by youth in Jos on Saturday.
The spokesperson of the STF, Ikedichi Iweha, announced the arrest in a telephone interview with journalists in Jos on Sunday. He, however, declined to state the number of people arrested.
A witness to the arrest, however, said six people were arrested and that some of them might not have been involved in the incident.
The attack has been condemned by both Mr. Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party, and the president’s major challenger, Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who called for the arrest and prosecution of those involved.
On Sunday, a leader of the APC in Plateau State, Yahaya Kwande, also condemned the attack and charged Nigerian youth, irrespective of political affiliations, not to engage in such attacks.
In his statement, the politician advised Nigerian youth to change the Jonathan administration through the ballot box come February 14.
“Nigeria youth should remain peaceful and orderly, I call on them to remain calm, and use their individual voter cards to vote in the APC at all levels; your votes are more powerful than the bullets, but we must use them wisely,” he said.
Mr. Kwande lamented the challenges facing Nigerians, saying “we are aware of the fact that Nigerians are in terrible situation, they are faced with a lot of hardships due to bad Governance, by the PDP, however, I am appealing on them to be patient.”
