Mrs. Omotoso and Miss Agboola |
Visiting the 2014 Games in
Glasgow as Commonwealth Class team winners has been a once in a life time
experience for Mrs. Abiodun Omotoso and Miss Temitope Agboola of Idimu Junior
High School, Lagos.
Mrs.AbiodunOmotoso from
Idimu Junior High School said ‘’The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and
British Council’s Commonwealth Class has taught our students creativity,
international cultures of Commonwealth countries as well as the values of the
Commonwealth. As a teacher, I learnt the importance of ‘practical
collaboration’ and how to bring out hidden talents in learners by giving them
tasks and activities that expose their creativity, this I will take back to the
classroom to enhance my teaching.’’
The school won the
opportunity to visit Glasgow as part of a team with nine other schools from across
the Commonwealth. They competed against
14 other teams over five months working on projects which gave all the young
people a unique, hands-on international learning experience of the Commonwealth
family.
Temitope Agboola said “I
had a wonderful time in Scotland; I saw Queen Elizabeth fact to face, I made
contributions during the live BBC debate, met students from other countries,
made new friends and learned how to play hockey at the Glasgow Green. I say a
big thank you to the BBC, British Council and the Commonwealth Secretariat for
giving me this opportunity.”
Commonwealth Class is an
initiative of the BBC, the British Council and the Commonwealth Secretariat. It
connects young people from across the Commonwealth, and helps them to share
their experiences and learn about Commonwealth values.
More than 100,000 schools,
300,000 teachers and 17 million young people across the Commonwealth have used
themed learning resources to take part in BBC online debates, competitions and
work on collaborative projects.
Mrs. Omotoso continued: “Through
the blog created by our team members, we intend to continue with our
collaboration with all the other countries to ensure we sustain the bond created
by the Commonwealth Class.”
