Spirit of Lagos calls for entries for Lagos Song Competition

As part of efforts aimed at changing the mindset of Lagos State residents towards their environment, public infrastructure and their fellow man among others, Spirit of Lagos (SOL), a non-political, non-religious organization, has invited Lagos residents to participate in a song competition to select a theme song that will resonate with Lagosians and promote the ideals of Lagos State.
The competition, which is expected to drive engagement and adoption of SOL’s messages among Lagosians, is open to residents of Lagos, irrespective of their states of origin, ethnicity, religion, class, gender and so on. The competition will run from September 1 to 26, 2014.
Project Director of the organization, Niyi Omotoso, said that “the theme song competition was conceived to engage Lagosians and create an opportunity for musical talent to thrive as well as generate thought and conversation around the values of Spirit of Lagos.”
According to him, “the best theme song must, amongst other things, be new and never been played in any of the media platforms or performed anywhere prior to the competition, promote  the unique attributes that made Lagos a centre of excellence, inspire social justice, civic responsibility, citizenship and neighbouliness, and must not exceed three minutes.”
“The winning theme song must align with the objectives of the Spirit of Lagos’ ‘CHANGE YOUR THINKING’ campaign which is to restore those unique values that made Lagos a safe, just, prosperous and neighbourly place to live in and visit in the past,” Omotoso continued.
He further informed the press that the winner of the contest will gain, amongst other things, a recording contract, opportunity to be considered as an SOL ambassadorship, cash prize of N500,000 and a chance to perform the song alongside some notable Nigerian artistes at the Lagos State Governor’s Ball scheduled for the third quarter of this year.
The first and second runners-up in the contest will be rewarded with cash prizes of N200,000 and N100,000 respectively, while the song with the highest vote will get N50,000 as a cash reward.
“The selection of the winning song will be presided over by a panel of judges consisting of performing artistes and record label owners. Each song will be judged on creativity, originality, message content, balance & blend, and overall acceptability,” Omotoso concluded.
The group announced that all Lagosians have a say in choosing the winning theme song as the competition allows all residents of all Nigerians irrespective of where they live to vote for the songs of their choice on SOL Facebook Page or any of the SOL online media platforms.
He called on interested Lagosians to compose and record either audio or video song of between two and three minutes and either upload it directly on the SOL Facebook page www.facebook.com/spiritoflagos or send their entries in a CD/DVD to The Spirit of Lagos Song Competition in any of the following locations:
1.    PlayHouse, 2 Abieyuwa Amadasun Street, Off Oduduwa Way, Ikeja GRA
2.    C&F Porter Novelli, 26A Babatope Bejide Street, Lekki 1
3.    TBWA at Harold Shodipo Crescent Ikeja.

All contestants are expected to enclose their full names, addresses and phone numbers in their entries as well as like the Spirit of Lagos Facebook page before sending in their entries.
